Mount Vernon High School Principal
The MVSD is pleased to announce the new high school principal as Dr. Colette Roche. I would like to thank everyone who participated in this process as part of the forum groups with students, staff, administrators, and parents. Pending the formal approval of the school board at our May 4th board meeting, she will be hired as the next principal of MVHS effective July 1, 2022. Dr. Roche comes to us from the Lake Washington School District and brings many years of experience. She is very excited to join the bulldog family and is looking forward to working with students, staff, and families! Thank you.
Dictionary Delivery
This week, the Mount Vernon Rotary finished delivering dictionaries to students in our community. The Rotary team had a chance to stop by Skagit Academy, Mount Vernon Christian School, Immaculate Conception Regional School, and Conway School to deliver the dictionaries they donate each year to all 3rd grade students. Dictionaries to our other 6 elementary schools were delivered a few weeks ago. In all, 578 dictionaries were given to area third grade students. There is no question they are always excited when they receive the books and can take them home as their own. Thanks Rotary!
Tea with Dr. V
This month’s Tea w/ Dr. V focuses on kindergarten registration. Teaching & Learning Director, Melissa Van Straten, took time to share about the kindergarten registration process. I hope you have an opportunity to view it. If you have a child who will be 5 by August 31st, or know someone who will, we encourage you to register online. Skagit Special Olympics
Skagit Special Olympics provides ten weeks of sports training and athletic competition, each season, for children (eight years of age and older) and adults with intellectual disabilities. If you know of anyone who would benefit, please feel free to share the link attached HERE.
Teachers Appreciation Week
Teachers Appreciation week is upon us and we want to take this opportunity to recognize the talented team in our district. With over 500 teachers, we boast teachers from all over the world. As I walk through buildings, I see our teachers inspiring students, engaging their classrooms and giving their all. We take this time to say “Thank you!” to all teachers for their dedication to the MVSD students and families.
Mariachi and Folklorico Event
The MV Mariachi and Folklorico teams will host a 5 de mayo Mariachi Show on Friday, May 6th at 7pm. This free event takes place at the Lincoln Theatre at 712 East First Street and will feature all Folklorico and Mariachi from LaVenture, Mount Baker Middle school, and high school.
FFA Plant Sale
Don't forget, the MVHS FFA Spring Plant sale is coming up tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th from 9am-3pm. You can find more information on their Facebook page.
Sound of Music Production
Several Mount Vernon School District students and staff are performing in Skagit Valley College's musical production of "The Sound of Music" April 29, 30, and May 1st. Katie Wagenbach, Madelyn Harris, Gavin St. Clair, Helaina Madden, Liliana Bianconi, Campbell Plagge, Rowan Johnson, Annabelle Malcolm, Jackson Montoya, Ann Klitzke and Lourdes Aguilar-Castaneda (orchestra) and many other local students, educators and community members are among the cast and orchestra. Washington Elementary and its after school program with COV (Children of the Valley) partnered to create a soccer team with 2nd and 3rd graders who have different barriers and are not able to join a league team. Twelve students joined and will be able to play in the Liga Tlaxtil. They have their first game Sunday, May 1st.

Directora de la preparatoria Mount Vernon
El MVSD se complace en anunciar que la nueva directora de la escuela preparatoria será la Dra. Colette Roche. Me gustaría agradecer a todos los que participaron en este proceso como parte de los grupos del foro con estudiantes, personal, administradores y padres. En espera de la aprobación formal de la junta escolar en nuestra reunión el 4 de mayo, será contratada como la próxima directora de MVHS a partir del 1 de julio de 2022. La Dra. Roche viene del Distrito Escolar de Lake Washington y trae muchos años de experiencia. ¡Está muy emocionada de unirse a la familia bulldog y espera trabajar con los estudiantes, el personal y las familias! Gracias.
Entrega de diccionario
Esta semana, Mount Vernon Rotary terminó de entregar diccionarios a los estudiantes de nuestra comunidad. El equipo rotario tuvo la oportunidad de pasar por Skagit Academy, Mount Vernon Christian School, Immaculate Conception Regional School y Conway School para entregar los diccionarios que donan cada año a todos los estudiantes de tercer grado. Los diccionarios para nuestras otras 6 escuelas primarias fueron entregados hace unas semanas. En total, se entregaron 578 diccionarios a estudiantes de tercer grado del área. No hay duda de que siempre están emocionados cuando reciben los libros y pueden llevárselos a casa como propios. ¡Gracias Equipo Rotario!
Té con el Dr. V
El té de este mes con el Dr. V se enfoca en la inscripción al jardín de niños. La Directora de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje, Melissa Van Straten, se tomó el tiempo para compartir sobre el proceso de registro de kínder. Espero que tenga la oportunidad de verlo. Olimpiadas especiales de Skagit
Las olimpiadas especiales de Skagit ofrecen diez semanas de entrenamiento deportivo y competencia atlética, cada temporada, para niños (ocho años de edad y mayores) y adultos con discapacidades intelectuales. Si conoce a alguien que se beneficiaría, no dude en compartir el enlace adjunto AQUÍ.
Semana de agradecimiento a los maestros
La semana de agradecimiento a los maestros se nos aproxima y queremos aprovechar esta oportunidad para reconocer el equipo talentoso de nuestro distrito. Con más de 500 profesores, contamos con profesores de todo el mundo. Mientras camino por los edificios, veo a nuestros maestros inspirando a los estudiantes, involucrando a sus salones de clase y dándolo todo. Aprovechamos este momento para decir "¡Gracias!" a todos los maestros por su dedicación a los estudiantes y familias de MVSD.
Evento de Mariachi y Folklorico
Los equipos de MV Mariachi y Folklórico presentarán una función de Mariachi de 5 de mayo el viernes 6 de mayo a las 7pm. Este evento gratuito se llevará a cabo en el Teatro Lincoln en 712 East First Street y contará con folklorico y mariachi de LaVenture, la escuela secundaria Mount Baker y la preparatoria.
Venta de planta FFA
No se olvide, la venta de plantas de primavera de MVHS FFA sera mañana, sábado 30 de abril de 9 am a 3 pm. Puedes encontrar más información en su página de Facebook.
La producción Sonido de la Música
Varios estudiantes y personal del Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon se presentarán en la producción musical de Skagit Valley College de "The Sound of Music" el 29 y 30 de abril y el 1 de mayo. Katie Wagenbach, Madelyn Harris, Gavin St. Clair, Helaina Madden, Liliana Bianconi, Campbell Plagge, Rowan Johnson, Annabelle Malcolm, Jackson Montoya, Ann Klitzke y Lourdes Aguilar-Castaneda (orquesta) y muchos otros estudiantes, educadores y miembros de la comunidad locales están entre el elenco y la orquesta. Washington Elementary y su programa extracurricular con COV (Children of the Valley) se asociaron para crear un equipo de fútbol con alumnos de segundo y tercer grado que tienen diferentes barreras y no pueden unirse a un equipo de la liga. Doce alumnos se sumaron y podrán jugar en la Liga Tlaxtil. Tienen su primer partido el domingo 1 de mayo.
