We Believe

In the Mount Vernon School District, we believe that every child deserves equal access to a high-quality early education program. We know these programs look different for every student and every family situation. The options range from the love and support of a family caregiver to community preschools, to home-based learning centers. The Mount Vernon School District is pleased to be able to provide one such option with our Transitional Kindergarten program. We know that however early childhood education looks for your student, a solid foundation in the early years will contribute to continued successes throughout their entire academic career.

What is Transitional Kindergarten?

Transitional kindergarten (TK) is an extension of kindergarten. This is a program that is designed for children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall and who have not yet had access to a structured early learning opportunity. This program will focus on early academic and social skills and will help prepare students for kindergarten in the fall. There will be TK classes offered at all six elementary schools. The Madison class will be dual language, Spanish and English. Like other kindergarten classes, this program will be a full day and follow the same Monday-Friday school schedule. It will run from October 31, 2022 through the end of the school year.
