Happy Friday,

This upcoming Monday, we commemorate and pay tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. This significant day symbolizes the freedom and transformation that Dr. King advocated for. He played a pivotal role in instigating changes that reshaped our nation's approach to racial injustice. Dr. King leveraged his voice to engage in activism, demonstrated courage in advocating for social and economic progress, and embraced love and hope as guiding principles. As a district, we recognize the importance of honoring this significant day in history, aligning closely with our commitment to Racial Equity. Thank you all for contributing to the creation of a more inclusive environment for all our students!

Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week, I had a chance to stop by classrooms at Harriet Rowley Elementary, in Paige Mcatee and Kathryn McNeill’s TTK classrooms, students worked hard on their fine motor skills.  As I visited Jenny Jungels, Nicole Macomber, and Briana Vandenbrink’s Kindergarten classroom, students were busy learning about music and animals.  Board member Wendy Ragusa was there as well helping our students improve their reading skills.

Upcoming Levy Initiatives
A recent board decision has given the green light to proceed with the renewal of the Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Levy and the Tech/Safety and Security Levy. The existing levies are set to expire in December 2024, and a vote on their renewal is scheduled for February 13, 2024. Literacy Night at Centennial
Congratulations to Adele Barborinas and the Centennial Literacy Focus Team for putting on a wonderful Literacy Night for our Centennial All stars!  This event was advertised to families as books before bedtime, so students and families came in their comfiest clothes to listen to great stories that were read by school, district, community, and board members!  Here is a link to many wonderful pictures for your enjoyment!  Also, if you wanted to see the video that was playing on loop in the gym the link is here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z0LBDq0GNeM&feature=youtu.be

Legislative Visit Update:
In Olympia this week, Finance Director Jennifer Larson, along with board members Larry Otos and Wendy Ragusa, joined two student board representatives and I, in attending Legislative meetings. This served as a valuable opportunity for our school to communicate our legislative priorities and for our students, Melanie Fuimaono and Carlos Barajas to share their stories with state legislators. Kudos to Melanie and Carlos for a job well done!

Students of the Month
Congratulations to Natalie Holland and Hunter Lin, our January Rotary Students of the Month. Both students were recognized at the Rotary luncheon this week, where they shared insights into their high school experiences and future plans. Excellent work, Natalie and Hunter! Thank you Rotary for highlighting our students!

• While last night's meet against Anacortes didn't result in a win, the Swim team has been having an incredible season overall. Kudos to the team! As evidenced by this picture, attending one of their meets means you better be prepared to get splashed! Great job, Swim team!

Este próximo lunes conmemoramos y rendimos homenaje a Martin Luther King, Jr. Este importante día simboliza la libertad y la transformación por las que abogó el Dr. King. Desempeñó un papel fundamental en la instigación de cambios que remodelaron el enfoque de nuestra nación hacia la injusticia racial. El Dr. King aprovechó su voz para participar en el activismo, demostró valentía al abogar por el progreso social y económico y adoptó el amor y la esperanza como principios rectores. Como distrito, reconocemos la importancia de honrar este importante día de la historia, alineándonos estrechamente con nuestro compromiso con la equidad racial. ¡Gracias a todos por contribuir a la creación de un ambiente más inclusivo para todos nuestros estudiantes!

Explorando el Pilar 1: Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales a través de visitas a las aulas
Esta semana, tuve la oportunidad de pasar por las aulas de la escuela primaria Harriet Rowley, en las aulas TTK de Paige Mcatee y Kathryn McNeill, los estudiantes trabajaron duro en sus habilidades motoras finas. Mientras visitaba el aula de jardín de infantes de Jenny Jungels, Nicole Macomber y Briana Vandenbrink, los estudiantes estaban ocupados aprendiendo sobre música y animales. Wendy Ragusa, miembra de la junta, también estuvo presente ayudando a nuestros estudiantes a mejorar sus habilidades de lectura.

Próximas iniciativas de impuestos
Una decisión reciente de la junta ha dado luz verde para proceder con la renovación del Impuesto sobre Operaciones y Programas Educativos (EP&O) y el Impuesto sobre Tecnología/Seguridad y Protección. Los impuestos existentes expirarán en diciembre de 2024 y la votación sobre su renovación está programada para el 13 de febrero de 2024. Noche de Alfabetización en el Centenario
¡Felicitaciones a Adele Barborinas y al equipo de enfoque de alfabetización del Centennial por organizar una maravillosa noche de alfabetización para nuestras estrellas del centenario! Este evento se anunció a las familias como libros antes de acostarse, por lo que los estudiantes y las familias vinieron con su ropa más cómoda para escuchar excelentes historias leídas por la escuela, el distrito, la comunidad y los miembros de la junta. ¡Aquí hay un enlace a muchas imágenes maravillosas para su disfrute! Actualización de la visita legislativa
Esta semana en Olympia, la directora de finanzas Jennifer Larson, junto con los miembros de la junta directiva Larry Otos y Wendy Ragusa, nos unimos a dos representantes de la junta estudiantil y a mí para asistir a las reuniones legislativas. Esto sirvió como una valiosa oportunidad para que nuestra escuela comunicara nuestras prioridades legislativas y para que nuestros estudiantes, Melanie Fuimaono y Carlos Barajas compartieran sus historias con los legisladores estatales. ¡Felicitaciones a Melanie y Carlos por un trabajo bien hecho!

Estudiantes del mes
Felicitaciones a Natalie Holland y Hunter Lin, nuestros Estudiantes Rotarios del mes de enero. Ambos estudiantes fueron reconocidos en el almuerzo rotario de esta semana, donde compartieron sus experiencias en la escuela secundaria y sus planes futuros. ¡Excelente trabajo, Natalie y Hunter! ¡Gracias Rotary por destacar a nuestros estudiantes!

• Si bien el encuentro de anoche contra Anacortes no resultó en una victoria, el equipo de natación ha tenido una temporada increíble en general. Felicitaciones al equipo! Como lo demuestra esta imagen, asistir a una de sus competiciones significa que será mejor que estés preparado para salpicarte. ¡Buen trabajo, equipo de natación!
