Classified School Employees Week
Next week is Classified School Employees week.  A time to thank our staff for their dedication and hard work.  From cooks, custodians, paraeducators, tutors, technology support, bus drivers, maintenance workers, and secretaries, they complete the vital educational team in our district.  Thank you team!  

Mount Baker Band
The Mount Baker Band has been busy!  Mount Baker Middle School teacher,  Andrea Brannman, shared about the very successful year they’ve had so far.  They recently played at the San Juan Music Educators Association (SJMEA) Jazz Festival.  The MBMS Jazz Band scored a "Superior" rating!  Along with the Jazz band, the Concert and Symphonic Bands took an incredible overnight field trip to Central Washington University where they rehearsed with Dr. T Andre Feagin, toured the campus, and attended an inspiring concert.  And to round things out, the Mount Baker Band and Mariachi program put on a concert for a full house Tuesday night and raised hundreds of dollars for their program through the Pass-the-Hat fundraiser. Great job students and staff who helped make this a great year, and thank you Andrea for sharing this news with us!  

Addams Family Musical 
The Lincoln Theatre will be showing the Addams Family Musical from March 17 - April 2. Our own talented staff and students will be part of their cast, as well as production crew.  Congratulations to  Renee Garman (teacher @ Jefferson), Barrett Brockman (Jefferson Student), Kayalyn Stewart (teacher @ LaVenture), Kennedy Hurtado-Stewart (LaVenture student), Rocco Lopez (High School student), Sierra Davis (LaVenture student), Abigail Wright (LaVenture student), Decatur Carpenter-Eells (LaVenture student), Sophia Frahm, and Milana Nikitov (LaVenture student).  For more information, you can check out their website here.  

Madison students helping beautify the city
Second grade teacher at Madison Elementary, Cristina Ashcraft, worked with her class to create a very special mural.  When asked what message students wanted to share with the community they said, "Save the pollinators!" Second graders worked to create a mural to cover graffiti in Mount Vernon, and their expertise on bugs and pollinators was just what was needed.  
A special thanks to the Mount Vernon Police Department for giving them the opportunity to share their voice, all of the students who participated in the mural, and Cristina Ashcraft.  Great job! 
  
Shout Outs:

• This week, volunteers from Western Washington University, City of Oak Harbor, Skagit County Parks, and the City of Mount Vernon, joined Ewing Irrigation as they rebuilt our Baseball Diamond and Pitching Mound at the MVHS baseball field. This was a hands-on learning experience of how to build a mound, batters boxes, and maintain your field.  Thank you to all who showed up to volunteer and to Ewing Irrigation for making this unique opportunity possible.  
• The past two weekends, the MVHS Debate Team competed at the Puget Sound National Speech and Debate Association's National Qualification Tournaments. Please congratulate the following students for their success:
• Natalie Holland, Maddy Harris, Taite Kirkpatrick, Sayer Theiss, Ailene Valles, Amanat Narwal, Dawn Rosas, Avalon Stewart, Jahaira Romo Perez, Lexy Illman, April Mejia, Lesley McPherson, Micahela Holland, Teagan Horton, and Matty Reiss. 
• Peri Kirkpatrick was named Debate Assistant Coach of the Year!

Banda de Mount Baker
¡La banda de Mount Baker ha estado ocupada! La maestra de Mount Baker Middle School, Andrea Brannman, compartió sobre el año tan exitoso que han tenido hasta ahora. Recientemente tocaron en el Festival de Jazz de la Asociación de Educadores de Música de San Juan (SJMEA). ¡MBMS Jazz Band obtuvo una calificación de "Superior"! Junto con la banda de jazz, las bandas de conciertos y sinfónicas realizaron una increíble excursión nocturna a la Universidad Central de Washington, donde ensayaron con el Dr. T Andre Feagin, recorrieron el campus y asistieron a un concierto inspirador. Y para redondear las cosas, el programa Mount Baker Band and Mariachi realizó un concierto para una casa llena el martes por la noche y recaudó cientos de dólares para su programa a través de la recaudación de fondos Pass-the-Hat. ¡Excelente trabajo, estudiantes y personal que ayudaron a hacer de este un gran año, y gracias Andrea por compartir esta noticia con nosotros!

Musical de la familia Addams
El Teatro Lincoln presentará el musical de la familia Addams del 17 de marzo al 2 de abril. Nuestro propio personal y estudiantes talentosos serán parte de su elenco, así como también del equipo de producción. Estudiantes de Madison ayudan a embellecer la ciudad
La maestra de segundo grado de la Primaria Madison, Cristina Ashcraft, trabajó con su clase para crear un mural muy especial. Cuando se les preguntó qué mensaje querían compartir los estudiantes con la comunidad, respondieron: "¡Salven a los polinizadores!" Los alumnos de segundo grado trabajaron para crear un mural para cubrir el graffiti en Mount Vernon, y su experiencia en insectos y polinizadores era justo lo que se necesitaba.
Un agradecimiento especial al Departamento de Policía de Mount Vernon por darles la oportunidad de compartir su voz, a todos los estudiantes que participaron en el mural ya Cristina Ashcraft. ¡Gran trabajo!

• Esta semana, voluntarios de la Universidad de Western Washington, la ciudad de Oak Harbor, los parques del condado de Skagit y la ciudad de Mount Vernon se unieron a Ewing Irrigation para reconstruir nuestro campo de béisbol y el montículo de lanzamiento en el campo de béisbol de MVHS. Esta fue una experiencia de aprendizaje práctico sobre cómo construir un montículo, cajas de bateo y mantener su campo. Gracias a todos los que se presentaron como voluntarios ya Ewing Irrigation por hacer posible esta oportunidad única.
