Graduation events
On Wednesday, Skagit Academy held a graduation ceremony which honored 24 seniors. This event was a remarkable display of student commitment and hard work. Aspire Academy followed with their own graduation ceremony on Thursday, where 60 seniors were honored. It was inspiring to hear the life experiences of these students and how they overcame their struggles to achieve their goals. Tonight, we will celebrate the accomplishments of the MVHS seniors. Mount Vernon School District takes pride in providing various educational pathways to meet the needs of our students and families. A big thank you to the staff at Skagit Academy, Aspire Academy, and MVHS for their dedication to guiding our students to success. Next week we will complete our graduation celebrations at NCTA’s Open Doors program. Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors!
MVHS Senior memories
As high school seniors prepare to graduate, there are so many activities to commemorate their achievements. At MVHS, the "Moving Up" event is a longstanding tradition that provides underclassmen with the opportunity to move up a grade and is symbolic of growth for the students. You can find the “Moving Up” video here. In the second video, we showcase seniors reminiscing about their favorite classes and sharing advice they wish they knew as freshmen. You can find that video here. We extend our gratitude to Tim Hornbacher for coordinating the creation of these videos. These cherished moments help our students culminate their senior year with unforgettable memories.
Summer School Opportunities
This year, the MVSD will once again offer summer learning opportunities for our students. These programs are made available through categorical funds, as well as through partnerships with community organizations. The district has been working hard to enroll students, and are just at capacity. Here's are a few of the exciting summer learning programs being offered by MVSD:
- Migrant Summer School: Our district is proud to offer a specialized program designed to assist K-8 students who require additional support. We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with teachers from Mexico once again, to co-teach alongside our own talented educators.
- YMCA and Boys & Girls Club: These programs are designed to provide students with fun and engaging activities that focus on character development and emotional growth. Offerings may include art, music, drama, sports, and more.
- Credit Retrieval: MVSD students who are in grades 9-12 can take advantage of our credit retrieval classes. This program will allow them to recover lost credits and prepare for the next school year.

An Exciting Seattle Trip with Music and Drama Students
Kayalyn Stewart and Aaron Wagner led around 50 band and drama students on a trip to Seattle last Thursday. Their itinerary included visiting the MoPop, taking the iconic Monorail, and catching a performance of Les Miserables at The 5th Ave Theater. After the show, the students even had the opportunity to meet some of the lead role actors in the alley behind the theater. I am sharing a photo below.
Governor Inslee visits MVHS
This week, Governor Inslee and his wife had the privilege of attending a private concert put on by the talented Mariachi and Folklorico students at MV High School. Not only that, but the Governor's Education Advisory also came to preview our school and our programs. We are truly honored to have had such esteemed guests. Washington Elementary students tour MVHS
This week, Washington Elementary students paid a visit to MVHS to commemorate their work with the LIA program. The campus tour and presentation from the Mariachi and Folklorico program is sure to leave a lasting impression on the young students. Such events not only help to foster a sense of community but also provide an opportunity for younger students to be inspired and learn about different programs and opportunities available to them. It's a great way to promote learning and community service. Kudos to everyone involved in making this event a success! The partnership between MVHS's LIA team, Mr. Rivera, Mr. Sixto, Mr. Flores, Mr. Serrano and Washington Elementary principal, Stephanie Jones-Flores played a role in the success of the program, and we can’t thank them enough! A Big Week for Elementary Students in Mount Vernon
Elementary students in Mount Vernon have a lot to look forward to this week. Students had an opportunity to select 5-10 books each, to add to their home library, and for reading over the summer. Executive Director Dan Berard, and Christina Crim, have been spearheading this annual event for a long time, and it’s one that kids absolutely love and benefit from. We are proud to support this initiative as it aligns with our Literacy for All, All for Literacy focus, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the students in the Mount Vernon School District. Shout Outs
- On May 31st, KAFE Radio brought their KAFE Kids segment to Suzi Luna's first-grade class. The visit was a hit with the students, who had a blast. You can catch the segment on their website, located here as well as on air today.
- Congratulations to Liz Donat, Madison Elementary who was the recipient of the Ellison Education Grant. This grant will fund projects and professional development during the 2023 – 2024 school year.
- MBMS 8th graders in Mrs. Sandoz class have successfully completed their mock trial journey, and we couldn't be prouder of the hard work they put into their roles and the legal process over the past ten weeks. Check out these pictures to see what the trial looked like! Great job students!

El miércoles, la Academia Skagit realizó una ceremonia de graduación que honró a 24 estudiantes de último año. Este evento fue una muestra notable del compromiso y el trabajo duro de los estudiantes. Aspire Academy siguió con su propia ceremonia de graduación el jueves, donde se honró a 60 estudiantes de último año. Fue inspirador escuchar las experiencias de vida de estos estudiantes y cómo superaron sus luchas para lograr sus metas. Esta noche, celebraremos los logros de los estudiantes de último año de MVHS. El Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon se enorgullece de ofrecer varios caminos educativos para satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes y familias. Un gran agradecimiento al personal de Skagit Academy, Aspire Academy y MVHS por su dedicación para guiar a nuestros estudiantes hacia el éxito. Recuerdos de MVHS Senior
Mientras los estudiantes del último año de secundaria se preparan para graduarse, hay muchas actividades para conmemorar sus logros. En MVHS, el evento "Moving Up" es una larga tradición que brinda a los estudiantes de primer año la oportunidad de avanzar de grado y es un símbolo de crecimiento para los estudiantes. Oportunidades de escuela de verano
Este año, el MVSD volverá a ofrecer oportunidades de aprendizaje de verano para nuestros estudiantes. Estos programas están disponibles a través de fondos categóricos, así como a través de asociaciones con organizaciones comunitarias. El distrito ha estado trabajando arduamente para inscribir a los estudiantes y está al límite de su capacidad. Estos son algunos de los emocionantes programas de aprendizaje de verano que ofrece MVSD:
- Escuela de Verano para Migrantes: Nuestro distrito se enorgullece de ofrecer un programa especializado diseñado para ayudar a los estudiantes de K-8 que requieren apoyo adicional. Estamos encantados de anunciar que nos asociaremos con maestros de México una vez más, para enseñar junto con nuestros propios educadores talentosos.
- YMCA y Boys & Girls Club: estos programas están diseñados para brindar a los estudiantes actividades divertidas y atractivas que se enfocan en el desarrollo del carácter y el crecimiento emocional. Las ofertas pueden incluir arte, música, teatro, deportes y más.
- Recuperación de créditos: los estudiantes de MVSD que están en los grados 9-12 pueden aprovechar nuestras clases de recuperación de créditos. Este programa les permitirá recuperar los créditos perdidos y prepararse para el próximo año escolar.

Un emocionante viaje a Seattle con estudiantes de música y teatro
Kayalyn Stewart y Aaron Wagner dirigieron a unos 50 estudiantes de banda y teatro en un viaje a Seattle el jueves pasado. Su itinerario incluía visitar el MoPop, tomar el icónico monorraíl y asistir a una presentación de Les Miserables en The 5th Ave Theatre. Después del espectáculo, los estudiantes incluso tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a algunos de los actores principales en el callejón detrás del teatro. Comparto una foto a continuación.
El gobernador Inslee visita MVHS
Esta semana, el Gobernador Inslee y su esposa tuvieron el privilegio de asistir a un concierto privado organizado por los talentosos estudiantes de Mariachi y Folklórico de la Escuela Secundaria MV. No solo eso, sino que el Aviso de Educación del Gobernador también vino a dar una vista previa de nuestra escuela y nuestros programas. Nos sentimos verdaderamente honrados de haber tenido invitados tan estimados. ¡Únase a nosotros para felicitar a nuestros estudiantes por su excelente desempeño! Estudiantes de Washington Elementary recorren MVHS
Esta semana, los estudiantes de Washington Elementary visitaron MVHS para conmemorar su trabajo con el programa LIA. El recorrido por el campus y la presentación del programa de Mariachi y Folklórico seguramente dejarán una impresión duradera en los jóvenes estudiantes. Dichos eventos no solo ayudan a fomentar un sentido de comunidad, sino que también brindan una oportunidad para que los estudiantes más jóvenes se inspiren y aprendan sobre los diferentes programas y oportunidades disponibles para ellos. Es una gran manera de promover el aprendizaje y el servicio comunitario. ¡Felicitaciones a todos los involucrados en hacer de este evento un éxito! La asociación entre el equipo LIA de MVHS, el Sr. Rivera, el Sr. Sixto, el Sr. Flores, el Sr. Serrano y la directora de Washington Elementary, Stephanie Jones-Flores, jugó un papel en el éxito del programa, ¡y no podemos agradecerles lo suficiente! Una gran semana para los estudiantes de primaria en Mount Vernon
Los estudiantes de primaria en Mount Vernon tienen mucho que esperar esta semana. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de seleccionar de 5 a 10 libros cada uno, para agregar a la biblioteca de su hogar y para leer durante el verano. El director ejecutivo Dan Berard y Christina Crim han estado encabezando este evento anual durante mucho tiempo, y es uno que a los niños les encanta y del que se benefician. Estamos orgullosos de apoyar esta iniciativa ya que se alinea con nuestro enfoque Alfabetización para Todos, Todos por la Alfabetización, y esperamos ver el impacto positivo que tendrá en los estudiantes del Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon. - El 31 de mayo, KAFE Radio trajo su segmento KAFE Kids a la clase de primer grado de Suzi Luna. La visita fue un éxito entre los estudiantes, que se lo pasaron bomba. Puede ver el segmento en su sitio web, ubicado aquí, así como en el aire hoy.
- Felicitaciones a Liz Donat, Primaria Madison, quien recibió la Beca de Educación Ellison. Esta subvención financiará proyectos y desarrollo profesional durante el año escolar 2023-2024.
- Los alumnos de octavo grado de MBMS en la clase de la Sra. Sandoz han completado con éxito su viaje de juicio simulado, y no podríamos estar más orgullosos del arduo trabajo que pusieron en sus funciones y en el proceso legal durante las últimas diez semanas. ¡Mira estas imágenes para ver cómo fue el juicio! ¡Buen trabajo estudiantes!
