Enrollment & Getting Started

Whether your child is starting their very first day of school or joining us from another district mid-year, we want to make the path in feel clear and welcoming. This section covers how to enroll, what programs are available for the youngest learners, and what to expect once your child is on the roster.

New to Mount Vernon Schools

Start with online enrollment through Skyward Family Access. You can also pick up a paper packet in English, Spanish, or Russian. Required documents include proof of age, immunization records, and (for older students) prior school records — but if you don't have everything, contact us anyway. We won't turn families away.

Heading to kindergarten next fall

Mount Vernon has two complementary kindergarten-readiness programs:

  • Transition to Kindergarten (TTK) — a full-day program for 4-year-olds at all six elementaries.
  • Kinder Connect — early-June welcome events where you and your child meet the principal and tour the school before that big first day.
Already enrolled and need help

If your child is already a Mount Vernon student, your school office is your first stop for schedules, transcripts, address changes, and most day-to-day questions. For attendance support — including help when life makes regular attendance difficult — see our Every Day Counts page.

Moving in or out of the district

If you're moving INTO Mount Vernon from another district, start with online enrollment. If you're moving OUT, contact your child's current school to begin the records-transfer process — the new district will request transcripts directly from us once they're notified.
