Greetings Mount Vernon School District families. I would like to share some news with you. Earlier this week, I was named a finalist for the superintendent position of the Northwest Educational Service District 189 (NWESD) in Anacortes. Yesterday, February 15th, I engaged in a comprehensive round of interviews. After these interviews, the NWESD board of directors gathered to discuss and make a decision. Subsequently, they offered me the position and I accepted the offer.
So, it is with heartfelt mixed emotions, that I will be resigning my position effective June 30, 2024. I have had the privilege to collaborate with remarkable students, families, and staff throughout my years in Mount Vernon. The support I’ve received from the community is invaluable, and I appreciate your dedication to your children’s education.
NWESD serves 35 school districts, Tribal Education Compact Schools (Lummi Nation K-12) and several private schools in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties. Approximately 16 percent of the state’s K-12 public school students are served in the region’s school districts, which range from large to small, urban to rural.
While I am enthusiastic about the new opportunity ahead, please rest assured that I remain fully dedicated to my current responsibilities. We will keep you updated as the school board develops a process to initiate a search for my successor.

Saludos a las familias del Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon. Me gustaría compartir algunas noticias con ustedes. A principios de esta semana, fui nombrado finalista para el puesto de superintendente del Distrito 189 de Servicios Educativos del Noroeste (NWESD) en Anacortes. Ayer, 15 de febrero, participé en una ronda exhaustiva de entrevistas. Después de estas entrevistas, la junta directiva de NWESD se reunió para discutir y tomar una decisión. Posteriormente me ofrecieron el puesto y acepté la oferta.
Entonces, con sinceras emociones encontradas, renunciaré a mi puesto a partir del 30 de junio de 2024. He tenido el privilegio de colaborar con estudiantes, familias y personal extraordinarios a lo largo de mis años en Mount Vernon. El apoyo que he recibido de la comunidad es invaluable y aprecio su dedicación a la educación de sus hijos.
NWESD presta servicios a 35 distritos escolares, escuelas Tribal Education Compact (Lummi Nation K-12) y varias escuelas privadas en los condados de Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish y Whatcom. Aproximadamente el 16 por ciento de los estudiantes de escuelas públicas K-12 del estado reciben servicios en los distritos escolares de la región, que van desde grandes a pequeños, urbanos a rurales.
