Happy Friday,

This Monday we celebrate and honor Martin Luther King, Jr. This important day symbolizes the freedom and change that Dr. King passionately worked for.  Dr. King helped to make changes that would alter the way our country dealt with racial injustice.  He used his voice to get involved, he had courage to stand up for social and economic progress, and used love and hope as his avenue.  As a district, we value the importance of honoring this important day in history that is in strong alignment to our Racial Equity Policy.  Thank you all for doing your part in creating the condition of a more inclusive environment for all our students!

Student of the Month
This month’s student of the month recipients, Audrey Bylund and Brian Manuel, were honored with lunch at the last Rotary meeting.  This is a time for Rotary members to acknowledge their hard work, and a time to hear their future plans and goals.  Congratulations to Audrey Bylund and Brian Manuel!

Shout Outs:

  • MVHS Mariachi and Folklorico students created a wonderful rendition of the “I have a dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We want to give a big shout out to Mr. Rivera and his students for putting this together. You can watch the video HERE.  Thank you!
  • Last Friday, the MVSD unified basketball team, led by Allie Lunden and Gina Garding, took on a very talented team from across the bridge.  Our students were amazing!  They played with great intensity and heart and so much Bulldog Pride that the gym was filled with nothing but smiles.  GO BULLDOGS!!
  • This week, Mount Baker Middle School and LaVenture Middle school hosted a PAC  NEWCOMERS event for all middle school families.  This event was well attended and allowed for families to interact with staff and other community members as they shared migrant services, and answered questions regarding attendance, academics, and other common questions.  Interpretation was provided in Mixteco, Ukrainian/Russian and Spanish, making it accessible to all families.   Free books were distributed to families who attended.  A big shout out to Elia Solis, Rosa Juarez Soria Mondragon, Josue Flores from the Migrant Department and the LaVenture & Mount Baker Multilingual teams and Acquisition Specialists.

El Dr. King ayudó a realizar cambios que alterarían la forma en que nuestro país lidiaba con la injusticia racial. Usó su voz para involucrarse, tuvo coraje para defender el progreso social y económico, y usó el amor y la esperanza como su camino.
