Board of Distinction
The Mount Vernon School Board has been selected as a 2022 WSSDA Board of Distinction! WSSDA said of the board “Congratulations on your district's accomplishments this year in closing opportunity gaps and your board's success in applying the Washington School Board Standards to accomplishing their goals while working together as an effective and cohesive team.” School Board president, Larry Otos, said this about the board, “The work and policy development along with timely review from our board make this award possible. Thanks so much for the board's work and dedication to the district.” We know the board has worked diligently to earn this prestigious award. Congratulations and thank you to each of our board members, Larry Otos, Wendy Ragusa, Dr. Laura Cailloux, Marissa Guerrero, and Griffin Uchida, for their outstanding contributions to our district.
Memorial Service
I was able to attend the memorial service for Ethan Chapin this week. It was heartwarming to see the celebration of life and hear what a bright young man Ethan was. Ethan was a MVHS 2021 graduate and was active in sports. The important message from the memorial service was to “Live life like Ethan” which is something we all can learn from.
Music Teacher of the Year
This week, MVHS Teacher, Ramon Rivera was interviewed by King 5 for a story on the Music Teacher of the Year winner. It was great to watch Ramon working with and bringing light to our students, as well as showcasing the amazing programs offered in our schools. You can watch the video HERE.

- Kat McNiel from Harriet Rowley sent this awesome picture of her TK students getting ready for Thanksgiving. I wanted to share the picture with you. Thank you Kat for sharing.
- America’s first all female mariachi group, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles was here last Friday, November 18th at the MVHS Auditorium. MV Mariachi, MV Folklorico and Skagit Valley College Mariachi were there to open the show!
- This past weekend the MVHS Band hosted the Craft Fair and it was a big success. Shout out to all of those involved in putting the event together.

Junta de Distinción
¡La Junta Escolar de Mount Vernon ha sido seleccionada como Junta de Distinción de WSSDA 2022! WSSDA dijo sobre la junta: "Felicitaciones por los logros de su distrito este año para cerrar las brechas de oportunidades y el éxito de su junta al aplicar los Estándares de la Junta Escolar de Washington para lograr sus objetivos mientras trabajan juntos como un equipo eficaz y cohesivo". El presidente de la Junta Escolar, Larry Otos, dijo esto sobre la junta: “El trabajo y el desarrollo de políticas junto con la revisión oportuna de nuestra junta hacen posible este premio. Muchas gracias por el trabajo de la junta y la dedicación al distrito”. Sabemos que la junta ha trabajado diligentemente para ganar este prestigioso premio. Felicitaciones y gracias a cada uno de los miembros de nuestra junta, Larry Otos, Wendy Ragusa, Dra. Laura Cailloux, Marissa Guerrero y Griffin Uchida, por sus destacadas contribuciones a nuestro distrito.
Servicio memorial
Pude asistir al servicio conmemorativo de Ethan Chapin esta semana. Fue conmovedor ver la celebración de la vida y escuchar lo brillante que era Ethan. Ethan se graduó de MVHS en 2021 y participó activamente en los deportes. El mensaje importante del servicio conmemorativo fue "Vive la vida como Ethan", que es algo de lo que todos podemos aprender.
Profesor de música del año
Esta semana, el maestro de MVHS, Ramón Rivera, fue entrevistado por King 5 para una historia sobre el ganador del Maestro de Música del Año. Fue genial ver a Ramón trabajar con nuestros estudiantes y brindarles luz, además de mostrar los increíbles programas que se ofrecen en nuestras escuelas. Puedes ver el vídeo aqui.

- El primer grupo de mariachis femenino de Estados Unidos, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles, estuvo aquí el viernes 18 de noviembre en el Auditorio MVHS. ¡MV Mariachi, MV Folklorico y Skagit Valley College Mariachi estuvieron allí para abrir el espectáculo!
- El fin de semana pasado, la Banda de MVHS organizó la Feria de Artesanía y fue un gran éxito. Un saludo a todos los involucrados en la organización del evento.
