Title I is the largest federally funded program in America's schools. This program services children in all six elementary schools and both middle schools. The goal of Title I is a high quality education for each child. It provides extra help in Reading and Math to students who need it most in schools with high levels of poverty.
The federal government provides money to states each year for Title I. Each state then delegates the money to school districts based on the number of low income families. An indicator of low income/poverty levels are the number of students and families who qualify for the free & reduced lunch program. Each school district identifies those schools with the highest poverty and provides Title I resources.
It is the responsibility of each Title I school to design and implement programs that will help students achieve.
Other services provided by Title I include school counselors, parent programs, after school tutoring and reading recovery.
