Experience: I have taught in the Mount Vernon School district for 10 years.  I enjoys teaching all levels of students at Centennial Elementary, Other interests are reading, running, playing the guitar, gardening, sea kayaking, hiking, and writing when time permits.

Mrs. Haley, Engish as a Second Language
Experience: This is my third year teaching.  As an ESL teacher, I work with all grade levels, but mostly with Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

 

Education:  I have a BA in Education from Western Washington University. I am endorsed to teach Spanish and ESL.  Currently, I am getting my Master's Degree from Walden University, with a focus on Elementary Reading and Literacy

Experience: Over 10 years in education, all at Centennial Special Education Inclusion of Disabled Students.

Education: B.S. In Horticulture (Plant Physiology) from WSU, Masters ofEducation Exceptional Children WWU.

Mrs. Sisson, Occupational Therapist
Experience: The first 12 years after graduation, I worked in various hospitals, primarily with stroke rehabilitation and orthopedic patients.  The next 4 years, I worked in an industrial rehabilitation clinic in Bellingham helping injured workers.  I came to the Mount Vernon School District in 1996 and have worked at Centennial and other schools in the district every since then.


Education:
I received my Bachelor of Science degree for the University of Washington.

Occupational Therapists in the schools typically work with students who are having difficulty performing classroom activities due to delayed motor, perceptual, or sensory skills.

Mrs. Wells, Librarian
Experience: Over twenty years of teaching experience: taught overseas for 4 years, librarian K-12, and high school history and government teacher 3 years.

 

Education and certificates: BA in Liberal Arts from Lewis and Clark College and University of Montana, Secondary Teaching Certificate 4-12 endorsements in history, economics, political science, and K-12 library science.

Ms Meenderinck, English as a Second Language
Experience: 4th grade teacher at Timothy Christian School in Elmhurst, Illinois (2000-2002). English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Centennial (2002-present).

Education: B.A. in Education from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA (2000). My endorsements include K-6 Spanish and K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL). Master's Degree in Education, with a focus on Elementary Reading and Literacy, through Walden University.

Ms. Bengtson, Speech and Language
Experience: This is my seventh year as a speech and language therapist, with experience in grades K – 8.  Prior to going back to school, I worked for nine years in the district as a paraprofessional in the areas of special education and reading.

Ms. McAdams, Special Education
Experience: Twenty-two years of teaching experience, taught Art in Junior High and High School in Michigan and Florida, 8th grade in Spokane, and Learning Center Teacher in Grades 1-4 at Centennial for last 12 years.

Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts from Michigan State University Master of Arts in Art Education from Wayne State University in Detroit. Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of Idaho.

Ms. Rex, Special Education
Experience: I have been involved in working in the field of Special education since 1978 teaching and assisting families and children with special needs.

My experience includes working with diverse populations and needs including: medical, emotional, and academic (autism, developmental delays, learning disabilities, abuse reactive, attachment issues, gifted and talented, attention and auditory deficits, hearing impaired, orthopedically and physically impaired, down syndrome, adoption and foster issures, sensory integration, and combinations of the above).

Education: Masters Degree in Special Education and Certification in Expressive Therapy
